DAMAVAND SKI TOURING

Ski touring from the summit of Damavand, the highest mountain in Iran! This is certainly one of the most exotic travel destinations for a ski mountaineer. Just the climb to the top is a very special experience. After all we are at an altitude of 5671m! Whoever stands on the “roof of the Orient” can enjoy a breathtaking 360 ° view over four thousand meter peaks to the Caspian Sea. Iran is generally a great ski destination in itself. Numerous lifts and alpine runs of all levels of difficulty are available at the ski resorts. All of this is a very good base to upgrade to great skitouring. Together with acclimatization ski tours, this will be a really nice skiing experience.

About Iran

Iran is a real mystical Asia; high-altitude steppes and deserts through which routes lead on to Pakistan, India, China, or vice versa to the Middle East and Europe. This is without a doubt that real Persia, full of magic, tradition, turbulent history and still strongly present culture. Iran is also recognizable by the mountain world of Albroz in the north of the country, where the highest Damavand, which is a huge giant with 5,671 meters above sea level, also climbs. Around it lies at least a dozen high mountains and really deep valleys, where long and gentle slopes lead us from the peaks over many ridges.

About Damavand

Damavand volcano is located in the Elburs Mountains east of Tehran. It is the highest peak in Iran and at the same time the highest in the Middle East between the Caucasus and the Hindu Kush. The name of the volcano, which has been inactive for around 150 years, in Persian means “frosty mountain”.

FAQ

Where and when do I meet your team?

Our team will wait for you at the airport. If you are arriving by land meeting point is also at the airport or elsewhere if you let us know where (this service is not included in a price). After the meeting, you will be transferred to your accommodation. Please note, that in some areas, due to a long drive to our base, we provide only one transportation per group, usually in the morning (Iceland, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Altai…). So take into consideration that one extra day and accommodation may be necessary.

Where do I meet my guide?

The guide will arrange a specific meeting location and time with you specifically. Most commonly, this location is at your accommodation or our base.

How much hiking up is involved?

There will be approximately 4-6 hours of hiking broken up in the day and approximately 800~1100 vertical meters of skiing.

Do I need climbing skins?

Yes, all of our ski touring tours require uphill travel, and skins are by far the most efficient way. Skins attach to the base of skis or split-snowboards, peel off at the top of the run, and get stowed in a pocket for the downhill fun.

Can I rent equipment?

You can rent equipment, but you need to inform us at least 21 days before the start of your program. Our trips are in remote areas where there are no shops or rental services, so we need to provide them from a distance. Please note that rental on the spot is usually not available.
