Montenegro is a small mountainous republic in the Balkans. It is one of the smallest countries and, after independence in 2006, also one of the youngest countries in the world. However, Montenegro has an incredible diversity in such a small space. A varied sea coast, a large Skadar lake, mountain groups, friendly people and a turbulent history. The country is better known for tourism from the summer season. In summer tourists often use Durmitor as a starting point for mountain biking, four-wheel drive or hiking tours. The world famous Tara Gorge, the deepest gorge in Europe, is only about 20 minutes away by car.
But we go there in Montenegro in winter, when the mountain expanses are almost untouched. We will explore the slopes of Durmitor and Bjelasica, where Kolašin is now the largest Montenegrin winter sports center. Flat slopes and high-alpine climbs await ski tourers high above the somewhat sleepy winter sports resort of Zabljak.
