Why ski touring in the Carpathians?
The Carpathians are the biggest mountain range in Eastern Europe, and few people ski tour here. Higher up, snow lasts up to 120 days a year, and gondolas in the Bucegi and at Bâlea Lake give quick access to open bowls, ridges and long valleys.
The trip is as much about Romania as about skiing: Peleș Castle above Sinaia, a night by a frozen glacial lake, a visit to a village distillery and the medieval old town of Brașov.

Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival in Sinaia. Meet the guide at Bucharest Airport and transfer (about 2 hours) to Sinaia in the Bucegi mountains.
Day 2 – Peleș Castle and Ialomița valley. Morning visit to Peleș Castle, then the gondola to 2,000 m and a descent into the Ialomița valley. Night in a mountain guesthouse at about 1,500 m.
Day 3 – Bucegi and Omu Peak. Warm-up tour towards Omu Peak (2,507 m), with an avalanche safety refresher. Back to Sinaia.
Day 4 – Western Bucegi. A full day on the wide, open western slopes of the Bucegi. About +1,000 m / −1,000 m.
Day 5 – To the Făgăraș mountains. Transfer (about 3 hours) and gondola to Bâlea Lake (2,034 m), our base for two nights in a mountain lodge.
Day 6 – Lady Valley. A full-day classic from Bâlea Lake. About +800 m / −800 m.
Day 7 – Down to Brașov. Ski down from Bâlea Lake, visit a local distillery in Ucea de Sus and transfer to Brașov for the last night in the old town.
Day 8 – Departure. Short ski session if conditions allow, then transfer to Bucharest Airport.

Who is this tour for?
Ski tourers with some experience and medium fitness who can climb about 1,000 m in a day and want a trip that mixes wild mountains with culture and good food.
Equipment
Bring full ski touring gear: skis or splitboard with skins, touring boots, poles, helmet and avalanche safety equipment (beacon, shovel, probe). Rental gear can be arranged if you book at least 21 days ahead. Shop ski touring equipment or see which destination fits which month.
