Ski touring in the Julian Alps
The Julian Alps are compact and steep, with high limestone faces above deep valleys. That means short approaches, varied terrain and descents that start in open bowls and finish in the forest.
Kranjska Gora is easy to reach from Ljubljana, Klagenfurt and Venice, and it makes a good base for a long weekend. The guide chooses each line according to snow and avalanche conditions on the day.

Itinerary
Day 1 – Krnica valley. From Kranjska Gora past the Krnica hut through beech and larch forest to the open basin below Kriška stena (1,950 m). About 700 m of ascent.
Day 2 – Velika Mojstrovka (2,366 m). The classic tour from the Vršič pass, with wide slopes and views across the Julian Alps. About 800 m of ascent.
Day 3 – Kotovo sedlo (2,300 m). The longest day: from the Planica Nordic Centre through the Tamar valley under Jalovec, then a long descent back to Planica. About 1,000 m of ascent.

Equipment
Bring full ski touring gear: skis or splitboard with skins, touring boots, poles, helmet and avalanche safety equipment (beacon, shovel, probe). Rental gear can be arranged if you book at least 21 days ahead. Shop ski touring equipment or see which destination fits which month.
