About Triglav National Park

Triglav National Park is located in the northwest of Slovenia on the border with Italy and Austria. The park covers a large part of the Julian Alps. It is one of the oldest parks in Europe, almost 100 years old. The main attraction of the park is, of course, Triglav, the highest mountain in the Julian Alps and also the highest peak in Slovenia (2864 m). Next to it are the alpine lakes, another pearls of the Triglav National Park. The highest lake in the Triglav National Park is Kriško jezero at an altitude of 2150 m. But the most famous is certainly the Seven Lakes Valley with their seven lakes.

The park has excellent opportunities for trekking, hiking, climbing and ski touring. We have some royal haute ski touring routess, such as Kredarica Hut with Triglav Summit and Mount Kanjavec. On the other hand, there are a number of less demanding ski tours, which are also suitable for less trained skiers. Bohinj, for example, is an excellent starting point for ski touring in the Triglav National Park. From there we can go to Vogel, Komna, Rodica, here we can start and end the royal tour with Kanjavec. Another possible starting point is Pokljuka, with summits such as Kanjavec or Debela peč. The wider area of Kranjska gora also offers a lot, from here it is not far to the Tamar valley, to the Vršič pass and to the Krnica valley. And we must not forget two famous valleys leading to Triglav, Vrata and Krma. The last one is the starting point for the ski tour from Kredarica Hut with the ascent to the top of Triglav.

Accommodation in Triglav National Park

The accommodation possibilities in Triglav National Park are, of course, limited, as it is a protected area. Especially in winter, when the serviced mountain huts are closed. Here, in fact, the only exception is Kredarica Hut, which is open all year round. But there are many accommodation options in the vicinity of the park. Sometimes it makes sense to drive a kilometer more to find the optimal choice in terms of comfort, price and required driving time. One of the best starting points for tours in the park is Bled. Our apartment in Kranj is only 25 km away from Bled and of course we highly recommend it. Here you will get a lot of comfort and a real travel mountaineering pulse.

Day 2–7SKI TOURING

Here are 5 tours in the plan. We will choose them according to the snow conditions and team ability. As already mentioned, the most interesting tours in the park are around Bohinj lake, Pokljuka plateau and around Vršič pass. Our first goals are Mount Mojstrovka, Kotovo sedlo, Mount Rodica, Pod Kriško steno and others. If possible, we will go on at least one of the big tours, Mount Kanjavec and Kredarica Hut with Mount Triglav summit
