Ski touring package in North Macedonia includes the two most interesting destinations, Šarplanina and Mavrovo National Park. One of the highlights is without a doubt skiing from Cerepašina mountain. Ceripašina mountain rises above Popova Šapka and is an ideal destination for one-day winter tours. Thanks to its position, and significant altitude, the view from the ridge of Ceripashina is extraordinary. It covers the entire massif of Shara, while the horizon stretches from the Pirin in Bulgaria to Prokletije in Albania. Views to remember! Popova Šapka is also the starting point for a tour to Tito’s peak 2748m. Depends on the weather and snow conditions we will decide whether to climb the route all the way to the summit or maybe 200 m bellow it.

Another ski resort is Mavrovo with Mount Korab 2764 m, the highest peak of North Macedonia and Albania. Korab is a full day tour but also one of the best ski lines in Macedonia. The huge 5km long gully with a vertical difference of 860m and average steepness of 25 to 30 degrees. Otherwise in general the terrain here in Mavrovo is easier for ski touring, with steady approaches to some moderately steep couloirs and interesting features.

About North Macedonia, Šarplanina and Mavrovo National Park

Macedonia is a small, beautiful Balkan country. It is one of the relatively unknown gems of the former Yugoslavia. Geographical and cultural position Macedonia, as a bridge between East and West, is also a crossroads between Christian Europe and the mystical Orient.

Sharplanina is a mountain range in the Balkans, stretching from Kosovo and northwestern northern Macedonia to northeastern Albania. The mountain is colloquially called Shara. The highest peak of the group is Korab (2764 m. The tourist center of Šarplanina is Popova Šapka. It is a small ski area with 20km of pistes and 9 lifts. But there are several excellent touring locations in the area we can choose from depending on the groups experience and conditions. Tours of 6 to 10 hours with a vertical gain of around 1000m are possible with some great lines to ski. We start ski touring from our accommodaion at 1800m. For comparison, another ski resort in the northern part of the country, Mavrovo National Park has around 25 km of slopes and 14 lifts.

Day 2-4SKI TOURING SHAR PLANINA

Three days of skiing, choice of tours depending on the snow situation. We will definitely go on Ceripašina planina 2531 m. Thanks to the wide slopes, the ski descent from Ceripašina is a ski treat. If ski touring makes sense somewhere, it is on Ceripašina! A ski lift also leads to the Ceripašina ridge. The cable car shortens the two most demanding conditions of the most demanding part of the ascent along the black ski slope. But due to uncertain opening hours and late first departures, relying on the cable car is a lottery.

Day 5-6SKI TOURING IN MAVROVO NATIONAL PARK

Another ski resort in the northern part of the country. Mavrovo has around 25 km of slopes and 14 lifts. This will be our starting point in finding the most beautiful ski lines.

FAQ

Where and when do I meet your team?

Our team will wait for you at the airport. If you are arriving by land meeting point is also at the airport or elsewhere if you let us know where (this service is not included in a price). After the meeting, you will be transferred to your accommodation. Please note, that in some areas, due to a long drive to our base, we provide only one transportation per group, usually in the morning (Iceland, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Altai…). So take into consideration that one extra day and accommodation may be necessary.

Where do I meet my guide?

The guide will arrange a specific meeting location and time with you specifically. Most commonly, this location is at your accommodation or our base.

How much hiking up is involved?

There will be approximately 4-6 hours of hiking broken up in the day and approximately 800~1100 vertical meters of skiing.

Do I need climbing skins?

Yes, all of our ski touring tours require uphill travel, and skins are by far the most efficient way. Skins attach to the base of skis or split-snowboards, peel off at the top of the run, and get stowed in a pocket for the downhill fun.

Can I rent equipment?

You can rent equipment, but you need to inform us at least 21 days before the start of your program. Our trips are in remote areas where there are no shops or rental services, so we need to provide them from a distance. Please note that rental on the spot is usually not available.
